Ai Weiwei
I finally went to see the Ai Weiwei Zodiac installation at Civic Center Plaza in downtown Denver. These are an interpretation of a set of zodiac heads installed in Beijing’s Garden of Perfect Brightness. The heads were looted and plundered in 1860; 7 have been recovered 5 are still missing. The artist was playing with the idea of real and fake, and of nationalist symbolism. He wanted these to be accessible, even “funny”, so people can relate to them; everybody has a zodiac connection. I am a Capricorn but my fav is the rooster. The dragon w/ shadow is cool as well.
